Indian Court Orders Woman To Be Gang-Raped For Having An Affair With Boy From Another Village

A 20-year old Indian woman is in critical condition after she was gang-raped for having an affair with someone from another village.

Reports have it that, last Monday afternoon, a group of tribal men found the woman sitting with her lover, who is from Chowhatta village and of a different religion and dragged the two of them to a religious place known as a ‘than’ where a makeshift court was hastily put together on the orders of the tribal chieftain.

The Police said that the youth was told to pay a fine of £245 and warned that if he did not pay, men from the village would ‘have fun with the girl’. With no money forthcoming, the woman was allegedly tied to a tree before she was forced into a shed and raped continuously until Tuesday morning.

Despite her critical condition and clinging to life, the female victim managed to tell her story to The Times Of India. She told the paper:

‘I had an affair with a man. We were dragged to a gathering where our community headman was present. They told me to pay 50,000 rupees (£490). When I said I couldn’t, they brutalised me.’

A doctor told the paper that the young woman was alive ‘only because she is a tough tribal girl. The woman’s distraught mother said that ‘the crime was committed by our own people.’

She added, ‘They tortured my daughter and dumped her home late at night. We were threatened not to go to police. We tried to go to Bolpur hospital, but they stopped us.’

The woman’s family were forced to remain indoors throughout Tuesday, doing their best to care for their daughter who was bleeding from severe injuries.

According to the Times of India, the family managed to slip out late on Wednesday afternoon and took the woman to a health centre, where doctors said she should be taken immediately to the nearest hospital.

But from that hospital she was shifted on to Suri hospital in a critical condition at night.

‘This is when the crime came to light,’ said police officer Prashanta Chowdhury. ‘She was gang raped and the details are yet to be investigated.’

TEENAGER IN BAYELSA STATE LOCKED UP IN WOODEN CAGE FOR TWO YEARS FREED.

A young girl in Bayelsa, identified as Blessing Olokumo who is said to have been locked in a wooden cage for more than 2 years after being accused of witchcraft by her family has been freed.

Information reaching LAURA’s Blog has it that the teenage victim, was said to have been suffering from a strange illness which made her lose control of her bowels.

According to Tonyon Ebitei Robert, the acting President of the foundation which rescued her, the strange illness led to the isolation of the girl by her parents due to her alleged constant incidence of defecation and soiling of the house.

Father of the girl, who is also a twin, allegedly built the cage and locked up the girl to keep her away from the main house.

“She was kept like a rabbit. She was given food when it is available and was allowed to sleep in her vomit, faeces and urine. She lost weight and could have died,” Robert alleged.

According to her, the group known for its campaign against maltreatment of twin child in the state, was contacted by concerned indigenes of Okolobiri community where the Olokumo family resides.

The first attempt by members of the group to reach the caged child was allegedly rebuffed by the father but their next trip was fruitful as he handed the child to them.

The rescued child was reportedly taken to the teaching hospital for proper medical treatment.

Though the father of the girl could not be reached for comment as he was said to have absconded from home, some indigenes of the community condemned the act, describing it as callous and wicked.

NIGERIANS SPENT MISSING $10.8billion – NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC on Monday, January 20 2014, stated that the $10.8bn it allegedly failed to remit to the Federation Account was not missing but was instead spent by Nigerians.

Specifically, the Group Managing Director, NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu, said if the fund was missing, then it was missing in the pockets of Nigerians.

In what appeared to be a reply to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the NNPC boss stated that the corporation had persistently filed its claims to the Federation Account monthly.

While explaining how the money was spent, Yakubu said, “The $10.8bn is not missing; if it is missing, then, it is missing in the pockets of the beneficiaries, who are you and I.”

Okonjo-Iweala had stated that the NNPC should provide evidence on how the fund was spent.
“If the money was spent on operational cost, let us see evidence that it was spent in an authorised way. And if not, let the amount be remitted to the Federation Account,” she had said.

According to Yakubu, the biggest chunk of the $10.8bn is the subsidy claims incurred on petrol and kerosene.
He said, “This is part of the NNPC’s quarterly allocation, which it is to provide to the country, especially for petrol. The NNPC is the only importer and producer of kerosene in Nigeria. The corporation brings in kerosene and sells at less than N50 at designated depots, and the landing cost of this is over N150.

“Now, we compute these numbers on monthly basis and that amount plus the subsidy on the PMS, which we all know, amounts to about 80 per cent of this $10.8bn that we are talking about.”

The NNPC boss maintained that the corporation was shouldering a lot of costs for the country with respect to the oil and gas sector, stressing that there were similar scenarios on crude and petroleum product importation lines as well as on the legacy assets.

Yakubu said, “All these are obligations that are on the NNPC and these obligations come at a cost. We have more or less fully militarised both the crude oil supply and crude distribution lines in the country.”

NOLLYWOOD ACTRESS BEATEN FOR STEALING, FINALLY SPEAKS OUT- “I Am Not A Thief, My Problem Is Spiritual”.

Upcoming Nigerian actress, Yetunde Akilapa who was recently allegedly caught trying to burgle a house and was beaten to pulp the second time in Lagos on Sunday, January 12 has finally spoken out.

Just last year, Yetunde was caught stealing with a bunch of master keys, breaking into a home in the Shomolu suburb of Lagos state and was prosecuted after which she was sent to jail in February 2013.

Now about two months after she was released, she was caught stealing again, but Yetunde says she’s not a Kleptomaniac, claiming her problem is spiritual.

“I am not a thief. I didn’t steal anything. I don’t know what is happening to me. I have every reason to believe my problem is spiritual. I can’t even explain the circumstance I found myself. People should not ruin my life and career. I am fed up with life. I am not what people think I am. I have never been to Kirikiri Maximum Prison as alleged. God please help me out of this mess! As I am speaking with you now, I am in Ibadan, Oyo state seeking the face of God and I believe I would get out of this dilemma one day. I am not a kleptomaniac. I have not stolen anything” she said.

Rumours making the rounds have it that Yetunde is said to have been banned from the Odunfa Caucus of the Yoruba Movie Industry, an allegation she strongly refuted stating she had called her bosses and they said such a decision was never taken.
She said ‘There is nothing like that. When I heard that rumor, I called all my bosses, and they said there was nothing like that. So it’s just a rumor. People are only interested in fueling issues because of my situation. Nobody banned me from acting”.

When contacted, a member of the Odunfa caucus, Yomi Fabiyi reacted to the ban allegation and spoke on behalf of the group.

“My opinion is that the association has procedures. With the report highlighted on social media, it looked half baked. To me, half truth is worse than a lie. I want to believe if she was caught with stolen items, the items must have been stated. She said they found her with four keys and nothing suggest the keys fit into any of the doors there. The association would even have to investigate the matter, especially when the reporter seem to be filing his report on a third party account. If there was any ban whatsoever, where is the proof? Then who banned her from acting? The association does not condone crime in any form and will act on authentic information. So Yetunde Akilapa to me has not been banned, But that will be investigated if necessary” Fabiyi told the press.

Counsel to Yetunde Akilapa, Barrister Bosun Osifowora released a statement on the issues surrounding Yetunde’s theft story, her alleged Kirikiri prison detention as well as her ban from the Odunfa Caucus of the Yoruba Movie Industry.

It reads:
“We write to expressly correct the impression that Yetunde Akilapa has been banned or suspended. She has not received verbal or written notice to that effect. Yetunde is sorry and remorseful that her name is involved in such things. She has very much regard for the industry and Odunfa Caucus, more reason she fights hard to always clear her name. It is ridiculous to suggest she wil be expelled when it is abundantly cleared that she has been cleared of any wrong doing but needs physical and spiritual help. There is no dignity fighting someone on the floor.

We also like to correct the following impressions:

* Yetunde was never in Kirikiri prisons during the first case. The matter was charged to court and bail application was granted and condition met same day which the media was aware of. The case lasted three months and she attended court from home, not from custody.

* There was nothing like master key and on no account did the police say the keys found on her were compared to the key hole of the rooms in the hosue and it opened. Why are journalist feeding people with stories so untrue? They were her keys, just four pieces.

* On this second case, whoever broke the news lied. Yetunde was never accused of stealing. The accuser suspects she may have been sent to drop some fetish substance. Must lies sell stories?

* The case got a twist when in an effort to prove her innocence of diabolical intentions, she confidently stated she is a budding actress. One of the guys googled her name and found the previous story, hit her in a swift reaction, hence she fainted. The guy has since apologized.

* It was on this note that the police was informed and the matter was settled and it was abundantly clear her accusers were also at fault. One thing now led to another until it dawned on her, after public accusation she began to realize she is in the wrong place.

* We are all Africans, efforts are in top gear to find a lasting solution to this menace. She needs your prayers, not your persecution now.
